"There comes a point in life when time starts
to pass more quickly and the desire to leave a legacy grows."

In 2011, José Rodrigues was captivated by the Alentejo plains and decided to purchase Monte da Ribeira, an estate measuring approximately 12 hectares near Évora, on a plot belonging to the former Herdade da Avessada, where he planted an orchard and a small vineyard.
Buying a tractor and other agricultural equipment to cultivate the land created the need for a garage to store them. But in a protected landscape such as his, that construction would only be possible if included in an industrial project, such as a winery, which prompted José Rodrigues’ desire to plant more vines and produce his own wine.
José Rodrigues wanted the winery to be designed by the architect Jorge Fragoso Pires, who conceived it in perfect harmony with the surroundings, but with functionality as the main concern.
Through “small and steady steps”, as described by the producer, Monte da Ribeira has gradually established itself not only as an excuse for family and friends to come together, but as a place that creates unique and exclusive wines.
José Rodrigues insists on personally presenting the wines, and is pleased with the results of this project, which he intends to keep growing.
